We found and added a 1.8 mile cross country ski trail to the South Loop for the 30 mile ride. This brings the mileage for the South loop up to 15.1 miles so the total distance is within acceptable parameters to be endorsed as a 30 mile ride (28.7 miles). The 50 milers will not do this extra piece at the start of the South Loop because the Woody Mountain loop is long enough to bring their mileage right to 50 miles.
Be sure to reserve CWSF hay if you need it Be sure to reserve the # of FFA BBQ dinners you need for your posse on Saturday night Karaoke after awards Saturday night! We will get the wolves to howl for sure!

The smoke has lifted and the temperatures have dropped down to lovely fall warm days and crispy nights! We are expecting rain next week --everyone do a rain dance -- the trails will be perfect if we get a good soaking rain. Get your entries postmarked or emailed by tomorrow--Friday 15th to avoid late charges. See you all in two weeks!
The trails are GPS'ed. The 50 mile is 50.1 miles. The shorter ride is 27 miles at this time --it may be lengthened to meet the 30 mile criteria. The total elevation ascent on the 50 mile is 4495 ft. The trails are majority old logging roads, some newly used logging roads, a 2 mile technical bike trail, 2 miles on a soft gravel road like at Sand Canyon. There is a majority good footing with small sections of rock--if you normally pad, I would pad for this ride. If you don't normally pad you probably don't need to. The trails are a little dusty right now --let's hope for some rain before September 30th .
There are 3 loops: North Loop 13.3 miles with 2287 ft of climbing --this is the first and most difficult loop and still has areas to move out. The two mile technical bike trail is half way through this loop. South Loop 13.6miles with 1746 feet of climbing. This is everyone's last loop and is the easiest trail with lots of shade and nice footing. Woody Mountain Loop 23.2 miles with 2208 ft of climbing. This is the middle loop for the 50 mile ride. It has a big climb up the mountain (Whiskey gallops it for fun) with a water tank near the top. Again, even with the climb there are many places you can really move out on this lolly pop loop. All 3 loops are mapped and GPS tracks will be posted next week. The trails are beautiful -- a little dusty --should rain before the 30th. Pre-entries are due by the 30th to save a $10 late fee. Remember to reserve # of CWSF hay bales ($15per bale alfalfa grass mix) you need and the # of Saturday BBQ dinners you need ($15 per dinner). We are looking forward to sharing the gorgeous Okanogan with you!HIghway 20 is open! The highway to heaven has opened one lane with a stop light to accommodate continued construction. We plan to head up and ride Thursday 20th and start checking out the trails. We will be riding and mapping tracks for the next several weeks. I will post tracks and elevation changes as they are available. I am gone the 21st to the 29th with my Envirothon team from OHS. They won the state championship and compete at Nationals in Maryland that week. My last hoorah! as a teacher -- after 34 years in education I am retiring. So by mid August there will be lots of new pictures and GPS info for you to peruse. I am so excited to get up there and ride -- we normally would have been up there 3 days a week for the last 3 months -- it has been a long wait this year.
Highway 20, like many roads in eastern Washington has had major mudslides and collapses. The highway slid off the mountain in several places. It has been closed since early April and will be closed until June and then only a single lane. Two lane access won't be until July sometime. In order to offer a quality distance riding event we have decided to change the date to September 30th. This insures plenty of time to get trails prepped and camp set up as well as two lane access to all our participants. Please change your calendars and come see the fall colors at the Loup Loup pass. If there is interest a 75 or 80 mile ride may be offered -- contact me at [email protected] for input A new ride near Spokane in the Selkirks will replace Ride the Loup on July 15th Go to the EDRA website for more information.
